Honduras Mission
On Feb. 29, 1997, 13 carpenters and employees of Carey Contracting flew to Flores, Honduras to participate in the volunteers for Mission Honduras, a non-denominational and non-profit organization that supports the Association of Francisan Boystown.
"One of the mission's buildings was recently destroyed- in fire," said Mike Carey, "and two of the women's shelters were in disrepair, so those three projects were our focus."
"Mike gave us all the week off and paid for our air fares," said Phyllis Rappi, office manager. "We asked the public to pitch in and help us with donations to help defray the cost of passports, shots, prescriptions and the rental of a vehicle."
Not only did the public pitch in with monetary donations, they also sent sheets, shoes, towels, clothing, toys and sports equipment for the orphanage.
