Home reaches international exposure

A rustic camp was transformed into a warm and inviting home away from home. An appreciation of antiques and a flair for design was the guide for this well-appointed home. Every detail of this cozy cottage from light fixtures, sinks, door knobs, willow branch ceilings to the red retro kitchen stove, was handpicked by interior designer, Kathryn Scott of Kathryn Scott Design Studio in New York City, to create a one-of-a-kind retreat on the Chain of Lakes in Spread Eagle, Wisconsin.

The project was so extraordinary that it was the front cover feature story in House Beautiful published in the United States, Poland and China—not bad for a cottage in Spread Eagle!

Mike Carey said: “This project was fun. Every detail complemented the next. For instance, the wall paneling, designed by Kathryn, was simple and easy to do, but she tied the cabinets, and interior and exterior doors to it. The entire cottage is a work of art. Kathryn is not only an artist, but also well versed in construction, which made the project a real pleasure.”

Other artistic details included covering the ceilings with willow fencing, using hand blown glass for the cabinets, and hand selected rocks for the outdoor walk ways and patio. Fanciful gargoyles grace the rain gutters, continuing the feeling of whimsey.

Kathryn Scott said: “My comments regarding Carey Contracting can be summed up into one word: ‘Impeccable. ’ They are very professional and easy to work with; if all contractors were like that, it would make my job so much easier. They made our entire renovation run smoothly and I highly recommend them!”
